Queen’s Guide Presentation

Sara Kassam a Brownie Leader with the 1st Baldwyn’s Park Brownie Unit in Joyden’s Wood has gained the highest award a member of Girlguiding UK can achieve.

A celebration was held to mark 26 year old Sara’s special achievements on Monday 23rd November at the Eden Road Scout and Guide Hall in Joyden’s Wood, attended by many of her friends, family and fellow guiders from Greater London Kent. County Commissioner Caroline Thomas presented Sara with her silver Queen’s Guide brooch and certificate signed by Her Majesty the Queen.

Sara believes that as well as developing and learning new practical skills, working towards the Award has strengthened her management and leadership skills. To complete the Award, Sara covered many areas, including helping with her weekly Brownie meetings, learning dressmaking skills and developing a community food growing scheme with her local Scout and Guide units. She was also selected to attend expeditions to Namibia and Austria, and explored the coastline of Kent during an unexpected snowstorm!

Division Commissioner Irene Beschizza said, “I’ve known Sara since she was two years old; we are all so pleased for her and proud of her achievements. Sara fully deserves to be a Queen’s Guide and recognised for her efforts.” Sara is now eagerly awaiting her formal invitation to Buckingham Palace to receive acknowledgement of her Queen’s Guide Award personally by the President of Girlguiding UK, the Countess of Wessex.
